THE MIGHTY SINGERS

The Mighty Singers Gospel Choir was founded on the 12 th August 1990 at Chiawelo Ext 2
(Soweto).The Mighty Singers Gospel Choir’s 24 years existence has seen them achieving
many great things. In 1996 they recorded their first album which was called Onketse ditse
tsentle. This first album managed to sell about 300 copies. Through this album, they
managed to perform in various concerts and competitions. In 1999, The Mighty Singers
Gospel Choir won the Viceroy Five Star Competition. They continued their good work by
winning more competitions.
In 2001, they won four awards at the Seun And The Holy Rock Award Ceremony which was
held at Diepkloof Hall. They won the Best Clap & Tap Choir Award, the Most disciplined
choir, and the most neat choir. Their conductor won an award of the best conductor. They
have performed in different provinces of South Africa, which are as follows: Limpopo, North
West, Northern Cape, Free State, Mpumalanga and obviously, Gauteng, and they are yet still
to perform in the Western Cape, Eastern Cape, and Kwa-Zulu Natal. Wherever The Mighty
Singers Gospel Choir performed wowed audiences, especially when they performed against
Barorisi Ba Morena in 2001 at Phiri hall.
In 2005, they released their second album known as Ballopolwa Ba Morena. So far this
album sold more than 3500 copies. This album was in demand all-over the country and it
managed to sell few copies outside the boarders of South Africa, namely Swaziland,
Botswana and Lesotho, the very same album won an award of the best album during the
Clap and Tap awards. One of the main objectives of this choir is to give back to the
community. In 2006, they donated food, clothes and blanket to The Seleke Family which
resides at Orlando. They also donated food and clothes to Othandweni Orphanage which
they intend to do annually. They also perform for various charitable organizations in the
name of raising funds for those particular organizations.

In 2010, they became a member of the big five (5) choirs in Soweto. They collaborated with
Hophethile, Together As One, Majalefa A Morena and Sefofane Gospel Choir to release an
album called Ezomoya Volume 1, which consist of the big 5 Soweto choirs. They performed
at the Jozi FM Annual Gospel Concert, where they shared the stage with well known Gospel
artist such as Rebecca Malope, Lundi Tyamara, Deborah Fraser, Sechaba and many more.
They also performed at the Apozion Annual Clap & Tap Concert, where they shared the
stage with various choirs of Soweto and nationally.
In 2011, they released the second album with the big 5 Soweto choir. The album is known as
Ezomoya volume 2 (Big 5). This album is currently doing well. In 2010 they released their 3 rd
album called Jehova Motsamaise, which sold more than 1000 copies up to date. In 2013
they released their 4 th album called Dillo tsa rona. In 2015 they released their fifth album
titled Kebuletswe. In 2017 they released their sixth album titled 174. They are currently busy
with their 7 th album which will be released very soon. To date, the choir consist of about 72
members which resides in different areas of Soweto and outside Soweto.
